Get Expert Nutritional Advice from IALVS Doctors

It is now widely proven by leading research publications that ingesting healthy nutrients is critical in maintaining the health and function of the body’s organs and tissues. IALVS doctors have advanced post-graduate training in nutrition and can advise you regarding the best nutritional supplements for your specific condition and optimum ocular and retinal health.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a disease that currently affects approximately 15 million people, which we expect to double by 2020. The National Institutes of Health has dedicated vast resources to studying the causes and preventative measures possible to help manage AMD. Eye vitamins and nutritional supplements for eye health target the delicate macular tissues and provide compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

The Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) completed in 2001 and AREDS 2 completed in 2013 found that taking therapeutic levels of antioxidants, zinc, lutein, and zeaxanthin can reduce the risk of developing advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD). More recent research has indicated that vitamin D3, B-complex, and taurine are beneficial in halting the progression of AMD and reducing a person’s risk of developing AMD. Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory agents for many retinal diseases and eye conditions.

Nutritional supplements are also therapeutic in treating diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt’s Disease (juvenile macular degeneration), dry eye syndrome, and decreased night vision.

Your IALVS doctor will customize a nutritional therapy plan based on your condition and needs.
