Dr. Jennifer Bowers is an optometrist whose practice is focused on low vision eye care with a passion for making a difference in the lives of those with visual impairments. She has spent the past 30 years dedicated to providing comprehensive eye care to patients. Dr. Bowers is a Fellow in both the American Academy of Optometry and in the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists. After many years of being a low vision examiner for the Virginia Department of Blind and Visually Impaired, she realized that there was a much greater additional need for specialized, custom-designed glasses including bioptic telescopes and prismatic glasses to help people further improve their abilities to drive, use computer, read, and watch television.
Dr. Bowers received her Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University. She then went on to pursue her Doctor of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry. Her clinical externships provided her with the experience of diagnosing and treating many ocular diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. Commitment to excellence and genuine compassion for patients led her to pursue a residency in Hospital-Based Optometry at the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center. During her time there, she gained additional experience while working with veterans in the low vision clinic and patients at The Cleveland Sight Center. She has completed post-doctoral training in advanced low vision care and has trained extensively with renowned Low Vision Diplomate and IALVS founder, Dr. Richard Shuldiner.
When not at work, Dr. Bowers enjoys participating in medical mission trips and coaching high school cross country and track. Her active lifestyle includes running, fishing, hiking and traveling with her husband and two children.
