Dr. Errol Rummel directs Low Vision of New Jersey, serving New Jersey and the Philadelphia, PA area. He is one of the few eye doctors who has been certified as a Fellow of the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists. His protocols for examining people with poor vision and devices he has developed are used by eye doctors throughout the USA and Canada.
Dr. Rummel has had over 35 years of experience, specializing in low vision care, and the care of neuro-related visual field loss.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO). Academy membership is awarded to optometric physicians who are respected, ethical, and knowledgeable.
Dr. Rummel is also a Fellow Emeritus of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (FCOVD) and Fellow Emeritus of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association. This certification is in Vision Development and Vision Therapy, (the areas of rehabilitative eye care related to double vision, eye muscle disorders, learning-related vision problems, visual perception/processing, and amblyopia).
Dr. Rummel has additionally developed an advanced optical technology system called Side Vision Awareness Glasses (SVAG), which allows those with neurological side vision loss (hemianopsia) due to stroke, brain injury or eye diseases like retinitis pigmatosa to be safer and more independent in their activities of daily living; and allows many to drive more safely. His protocols for improving visual awareness for those with hemianopsia are used by eye doctors in the United States and Canada.
Dr. Rummel has taken advanced low vision training in the design of custom-made telescope glasses that allow those with poor vision, or partial sight, to be able to read, see faces of loved ones and even drive more safely. He was awarded Fellowship in the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (FIALVS), and treats vision impairment not being helped by regular glasses, medicine, or surgery (due to eye diseases like Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Optic Nerve Disease and Retinitis Pigmentosa). Dr. Rummel has also developed a system for examining and prescribing visual field expanding reverse telescope glasses for those with constricted side vision (tunnel vision), and has developed Side Vision Awareness Glasses for people with stroke-related side vision loss.
