An Optometrist with over three decades of experience, she is redefining what it means to have “Vision Loss.”

Nearly thirty million Americans have low vision, a condition that cannot be corrected with conventional glasses, contact lenses, medical treatment or surgery. Unlike total blindness, most individuals with low vision have some useful vision, but find it difficult to accomplish daily tasks.

Dr. Walker’s passion is helping individuals whose vision has been compromised due to macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, Stargardt’s disease, retinitis pigmentosa, traumatic brain injury, stroke and other vision limiting conditions.

Her success rate is over ninety percent in helping individuals who have been previously informed “nothing else can be done” for them. By using customized telescopes, microscopes and the latest technology, Dr. Walker is able to maximize the vision they have so they can read, watch television, recognize faces, play cards and drive. This personalized approach to low vision sets the doctor at the forefront of her field.

Dr. Walker is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Indiana University School of Optometry. She has been practicing Optometry since 1986. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Dr. Walker is the Clinical Director of Low Vision of New Mexico (LVNM) which is New Mexico’s premier low vision clinic featuring the most extensive devices and aids available in the state. She is a fellow of the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (IALVS), a group of optometrists committed to empowering visually impaired individuals to live a happier, more independent life. She is also a clinical partner with several low vision companies, including the latest electronic devices eSight and IrisVision.

In her free time, Dr. Walker and her husband, David, enjoy traveling, biking and hiking all over the world, especially the Sandias.
