Advancing Low Vision Care Through Expert Education and Collaboration

For years, the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (IALVS) quietly empowered a network of dedicated optometrists focused on one goal: helping patients reclaim independence after vision loss. But today, IALVS is no longer a quiet corner of optometry. It’s a growing, nationwide force leading the charge in low vision education, innovation, and patient-centered care.

A National Network Built on Collaboration

At IALVS, education isn’t just ongoing—it’s intentional and driven by a shared purpose. The IALVS Education Committee, led in partnership with IALVS President Dr. Richard Shuldiner, OD, FAAO, works year-round to deliver high-impact learning opportunities that sharpen clinical skills, strengthen professional bonds, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

In February, 25 IALVS Fellows from across the country came together for a specialized webinar on Peripheral Vision Loss Conditions and Treatments. Led by Dr. Jarrod Long and Dr. Shuldiner, the session covered key topics such as hemianopsia, glaucoma-related field loss, retinitis pigmentosa, and other conditions that severely impact peripheral vision.

But the learning didn’t stop at clinical overviews. Participants shared real-world cases, exchanged strategies, and explored the latest tools designed to help patients navigate the challenges of limited visual fields. These sessions reinforce what makes IALVS unique—education rooted in experience and driven by patient outcomes.

What Sets IALVS Doctors Apart?

IALVS members are united by more than their credentials. They are deeply committed to helping patients live fuller, more independent lives despite vision loss. Through personalized low vision care, they provide solutions that restore confidence, mobility, and functionality.

Every educational event, peer review, and case discussion strengthens the IALVS network—creating a robust community of professionals equipped to tackle even the most complex visual challenges with compassion and clarity.

“There Is Life After Vision Loss”

That belief is at the core of IALVS. As the leading network of low vision optometrists, we understand that a diagnosis of vision loss isn’t the end—it’s the beginning of a new journey. Through education, mentorship, and collaboration, IALVS doctors help patients rediscover purpose, engage more fully in daily life, and reclaim what matters most.

If you or someone you care about is living with peripheral vision loss, there is help—and there is hope.
